Function: Member of Oncopolicy Executive
Dirk Arnold is a medical oncology expert whose main research interests include the treatment of gastrointestinal cancers, focusing on molecular-targeted therapies, immunotherapy, multimodal treatment strategies and early drug developments. He is also interested in research network structures and methodology of clinical research and outcome research, and benefit evaluation procedures. Furthermore, his interests are in organisational structures of cancer service units / cancer centers, as well as accreditation and certification programs.
He is currently co-ordinating Director at the CUF Hospitals Cancer Center in Lisbon, Portugal and Professor of Medicine at the University of Hamburg. He is a key member of several German and international cancer societies, including the European CanCer organisation (ECCO) as well as the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) where in both he serves as Executive Board Member.
Dirk Arnold also serves as Section Editor for Gastrointestinal Cancers of the ESMO Guideline Committee. His other affiliations include Chairman of the Colorectal Cancer Study Group of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Internistische Onkologie (AIO) and member of the Task Force Colorectal Cancer and the Board of the Gastrointestinal Cancer Study Group of the EORTC – European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer.
Dirk Arnold received his training as Medical Oncologist and specialist in Palliative Care at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Halle, Germany.
